Men’s Health Series Part 4: What TRT Can Improve, and What It May Not
From my desk to you
Feel Better. Look Better. Be Better.
(There is another update on the kitten at the end!)
Testosterone therapy can be helpful for appropriately selected men with symptoms and documented testosterone deficiency.
Research suggests that TRT may improve sexual desire, sexual activity, and certain symptoms of hypogonadism in men with confirmed low testosterone. However, the response varies from person to person, and treatment is not a universal solution for every concern involving erections, fatigue, weight gain, mood, or motivation.
Erectile function, in particular, can have multiple contributing factors. Vascular health, medications, sleep, stress, metabolic health, relationship factors, and other medical conditions may all play a role. In clinical research, testosterone improved sexual desire and sexual activity in appropriately selected men, but it did not improve erectile function compared with placebo in the TRAVERSE Sexual Function Study.
A responsible treatment plan should include a thoughtful evaluation, appropriate dosing, symptom tracking, laboratory monitoring, and discussion of fertility considerations and other risks.
The goal is not to chase the highest possible testosterone level. The goal is to support meaningful clinical improvement while using an individualized treatment approach and continuing to evaluate other factors that may affect your health.
I link research articles throughout my educational content because I want you to be able to read the science behind my clinical thought process. My approach is rooted in research and data, while also making space for your symptoms, goals, questions, and personal experience. Good care requires both evidence and listening.
If you are considering TRT, make sure you are receiving individualized medical care rather than relying on internet advice or an online dosing protocol.
